Twitter is evil

Article , , edwin 10:36 am

Or some say. Because it is killing blogging, RSS feeds amongs other things. For certain it is disrupting my daily work flow a lot more than blogs did before…

Some interesting numbers on Twitter versus Blogging can be found here. I don’t believe that Twitter is endangering blogging, it seems to me people are comparing apples to oranges in most of the comments like these. You can only put so much content in a tweet. It does however cut down on blog entries that are only announcing new stuff. This post says it well: Blogs aren’t dead. They are maturing!

Same goes for killing of RSS feeds by Twitter. It’s fine for announcing new articles, but the articles themselves still have to be put somewhere, outside Twitter. There are other issues like these: Is Twitter killing blog comments?, for which we should find a solution, at least if you depend on advertising.

No Google Maps API license for paid iPhone apps needed?

News , edwin 1:32 pm

Some good news from a first look at the new iPhone SDK 3.0 beta, at least that’s what I fervently hope: you don’t have to pay the commercial license fee for using the Google Maps API in paid applications. If you use the Maps API for paid web sites or application, you are bound by the terms as described in Google Maps/Google Earth APIs Terms of Service, but when you use the new map classes from the 3.0 iPhone SDK, there are different terms of agreement: iPhone Google Maps Terms of Service. Am I right in thinking this?
